Catching Up

We were lucky enough to have a fun, family-filled July. One of the more exciting events happened early in the month when Caleb got stitches in his right foot. We had some friends over to play and as they were playing in the sandbox one of the boys accidentally stabbed Caleb in his foot with a shovel. Luckily Caleb did really well in the Emergency Room. There was very little crying as he received stitches. It's now healing up well and looking good. Shortly after the incident Mitchell informed me that he wants to wear shoes in the sandbox from now on.
I'm trying to take every Friday and do something fun with the kids outside of our home. This was a picnic adventure we had at Silver Lake a few weeks ago.
The week before last my brother, Nate, and his family were in town. It was a week of non-stop fun. We went to the zoo, the dinosaur museum, had a family home evening in the mountains, the Church History museum, played in the fountains at the Gateway, spent an entire afternoon at a family friend's pool and did fireworks for the 24th. The cousins had a great time together! (And the adults, too!)
THEN, the next week we spent with Clint's family in Estes Park, Colorado. The kids had a great time with their aunts and uncles. Mitchell really attached himself to Clint's brother, Nicholas and would have done anything for him during the week.

While there we went hiking, traveled to Denver to see the aquarium and the mint. We also drove around the Rocky Mountain National Park and played at a local fun-stop that had go-karts, batting cages, bumper boats, etc. My two favorites were the aquarium and hiking. While at the aquarium we were watching the tiger pace back and forth in his pen. Mitchell went in for a closer look and as soon as the tiger spotted him he started bounding towards him and smashed his face into the glass. It was really funny and a little disconcerting at the same time knowing that a tiger had wanted to eat your child.
We went on a 9 mile hike in the Rocky Mountain National Park with some of Clint's siblings. (The kids stayed with Grandma and Grandpa.) It was beautiful! The only bad parts were the two very painful blisters on my heels. I think it finally may be time that I buy some hiking boots.

I think I'd wear shoes too.
becca, are you wearing eyeglasses in the second picture? Either it's just the sun reflecting off your sunglasses or I've been away toooooo long.
