4th of July

I love the summer! I love kids playing in the backyard and getting wet. I feel so much more free during the summer and so I think it's appropriate that we celebrate our nations freedom during the summertime.
We dared to go camping on the 4th of July. The evening was a lot of fun. We enjoyed cooking in the Dutch ovens and playing games by the lantern light. There were caterpillars everywhere and I thought it was really cool until I realized that they would turn into the millions of moths that were dive-bombing my face all night.

This happy picture of Mitchell is in no way indicative of the amount of sleep he received while camping. He would NOT stop talking until about 1 or 2 in the morning when he finally went to sleep.
Caleb was very interested in the fire pit. Luckily he never burnt his hands but did get a taste of how hot it can be when he placed his hands on the outiside ring of the fire pit. The heat scared him enough to keep him away for the rest of the camping trip without actually burning him.
We're pretty sure this will be our last camping adventure of the summer.
I've learned something new this past week. Apparently babies can start sucking their thumbs at 16 months of age. Caleb just started and is now a dual-wielder. He'll suck one for a few seconds then switch to the other. Temporary?--We have mixed feelings.............it sure brings him a lot of happiness.

Caleb the thumb sucker, how cute! He just can't get enough of his thumbs and has to stick both in at the same time. Well, whatever will keep them happy. Your camping adventure makes me laugh! You guys are such a great, fun family! Love spending time with you guys.
